I’ve been practicing physical therapy since graduating from the University of Minnesota (Ski U Mah!) with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2012. My first exposure to physical therapy was as a kid, when I had a few visits to address a painful bump on my knee. Ever since, I have been curious about how the human body works! My approach is to listen and learn from my patients about what they are feeling and want from PT, utilize my mind, eyes and hands to help people function with less pain. I am a curious soul with a fondness for learning and have spent a great deal of my own time since graduate school furthering my clinical skills to improve my clients outcomes.
My career focus has been in orthopedics and in 2016 I received my Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy. My clinical areas of focus include: Osteopathic Muscle Energy (MET), hands-on manual therapy, myofascial release, neural manipulation, craniosacral therapy, neuromuscular re-education and corrective exercises.
In my time away from the clinic I enjoy relaxing outside, hiking and creating art. I also enjoy time with family & friends, following the Vikings & Gophers and playing board games.
I grew up in North Miami Beach, Florida. I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force immediately following high school. Towards the end of my enlistment, I became interested in physical therapy because I realized I enjoyed working with individuals and making lasting impacts on their lives by helping them achieve their fitness goals, regaining or maintaining their independence, and leading active lives.
I moved to Minnesota in 2017 where I attended and graduated from Anoka-Ramsey Community College in May 2021, where I received my PTA degree. I joined Midwest Physical Therapy in September 2021.
My wife and I live in Plymouth and together we lead a very active lifestyle that includes CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, hiking various trails in the U.S., biking, kayaking, longboarding, and surfing.
I’m a physical therapist who joined Midwest Physical Therapy after 17 years of outpatient orthopedic experience all over the country. I obtained my Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2006. I have since worked in clinics specializing in spine, sports performance, running and endurance sports, and vestibular rehabilitation.
I’m a lifelong endurance athlete, starting as a Division I collegiate swimmer, progressing to an Ironman triathlete, and now a long distance runner. I have experience treating a wide range of orthopedic and sports injuries, have further training in several disciplines of manual therapy, am certified in dry needling, and am certified in mechanical diagnosis and treatment (McKenzie Method).
I believe in a multifaceted approach to treatment, including manual therapy to assist in recovery of function, exercise to maintain appropriate musculoskeletal mechanics, movement analysis to restore appropriate mechanics, and prevention strategies to maintain a healthy lifestyle/enjoy return to activity after injury. I have experience in biomechanical analysis for daily activity, walking, running, swimming, and cycling, and apply this experience to help my patients return to their chosen activities more quickly.
I graduated from the College of St Catherine in 2000 with a Masters in Physical Therapy (MPT) degree. I have a BA in Biology, also from St. Kate’s. I was motivated to become a physical therapist after getting injured as a high school gymnast and then fully returning because of physical therapy. From this event, I knew what I wanted to spend my life doing professionally, a decision I have never regretted.
Since graduating from PT school I have practiced in a variety of settings. Each setting has provided valuable, hands-on learning, all of which has made me the physical therapist I am today. What has been consistent in my 24 years of practice is just how much I enjoy working with and helping people.
As a seasoned PT, I work hard to determine both the cause and contributing factors for each patient’s particular situation. This in turn allows me to determine the appropriate plan to address the underlying issues.
I try to make each appointment a positive experience; even using humor to facilitate progress. I live in the MacGroveland neighborhood in St. Paul with my husband, our two sons, and a Golden Retriever with whom I go on countless walks around the neighborhood. Whenever able, our family likes to travel around the US and Europe. When back at home, my favorite things to do are to spend time with my family & friends, run along the Mississippi and garden.
I grew up in Oklahoma and received my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major in Dance from WTA&MU in 1995. After 12 years of instructing and performing ballet, I decided to use my passion for exercise technique and body mechanics as a physical therapist assistant. I graduated from OCCC with an Associate of Applied Science (PTA) in 2007. I earned my Certified Brain Injury Specialist certification in 2014.
I chose physical therapy because I find it rewarding to help people return to their active lifestyle safely and without pain, as well as providing education for prevention of future injuries. The ‘aha’ moment when a person connects how therapy will help them regain function or decrease pain is the best.
When I’m not taking my daughter to dance, acro, or other activities, I enjoy taking pictures of her, gardening, and canning pickles.
